Symbol Map

Tableau Canvas Layout:

Symbol map, or proportional symbol map, is used to display quantitative values at different locations. Similar to choropleth map, it only has Longtitude and Latitude on Columns and Rows.

Data Set: Sample Superstore Dataset

Building a Symbol Map

Using the Superstore data:

Double-click Country/Region. This will put Latitude (generated) on the Rows, and Longtitude (generated) to Columns.
     Move Profit to Color
Move Sales to Size. These two steps could be done the opposite way.
     Move States to Detail.
Increase the size of States as you preferred and you have a symbol map as below.

If you want to add color to the Symbol map then simply add another measure to Color on the Marks Card. In this example, I move Profit to Color
